Katie set a goal at the end of last club season to make the #1 team (Asics) at her club, OVA. We are very proud that Katie accomplished that goal. What an amazing team with incredbile, experienced athletes, technical and tough coaches and high expectations. Katie has only been playing volleyball for 1 1/2 years when she started this club season so she has the least court time on anyone on the team, but her improvement has been really outstanding. She is a DS (defensive specialist) and plays some libero. She comes in to serve and has done a great job learning new serves!!
When we got together for our first team meeting, the assistant coach (and also club owner) announced that our first tournament was in early January in San Juan, Puerto Rico! Wow .. we didn't see that coming!! Since it was her first tourney on the new team, Sean and I decided we would both go and leave the kids at home. Thank goodness Meredith came to watch the kids ... she is the best!!! It was a really nice introduction into the very competitive nature of this team, fun to meet all the families and super awesome to be alone with Katie for the weekend. Not that we ever wanted an only child, but boy is it easy with just one!!
