Weekend Getaway
Decided to spend Father's Day in Naples at the beach. Originally, we thought Andrew and Matthew would be in Seattle, but with Meredith's father-in-law passing away, we had to cancel their trip. Although the boys were disappointed, we couldn't have had a better weekend. We were relaxed and chilled out!! So nice to be with Sean's parents (and having someone cook for you!) and to also have time just the 7 of us at the beach. Saturday on a bit of a whim, Sean suprised us all by taking us parasailing!! Julia was not one bit hesitant and we had a total blast. Pawpie stayed on the beach with William while the rest of us were out for about a hour on the boat. Girls went first, then boys!! So much fun ... a memory for a lifetime!!

A Skip in His Step
Was watching William play the other day and realized he can skip. I don't think any of the other kids skipped this early. Sorry about the no pants in the video. He was so cute skipping around that I couldn't resist shooting some video!!

Expedition Everest
We had a blast at the Everest Challenge at Animal Kingdom on Saturday night. Matthew ran the kids race (and placed first in his heat). They had to sprint a 200M and then run through an obstacle course. He was a bit disappointed that it wasn't longer, but he got a cool medal and had fun with his friends Brody and Caleb!! Way to Go Matthew.
I ran with my great friend, Kristin. It was a 5K with obstacles and then a scavenger hunt. My foot has really been hurting and I will have to had surgery on it if I want to continue to run. I felt bad that our time was not better for the 5K, but we made up time on the scavenger hunt and actually placed 11th out of 432 teams. If I had known we were so close to the top 10, I probably could have run faster. It was really fun to be in AK in the dark and after the race was over, the park was open. We rode Everest and the Rapids twice. Thanks Kristin for asking me to do this .... we think next year we will run it with the boys. So fun!!!
Happy 12 Years, Miss Kate
Katie turned 12 this past Friday!! What an amazing birthday this girl had. Casey spent the night, we opened presents that morning and then she had a huge birthday bash/sleepover at the Omni Villas with TWELVE 12 year olds. My sweet friend and photographer, Terri, was at the party to do photo booth pics (I will post those later) and took candids at the pool. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the picture of all the girls jumping into the pool. The girls had an amazing time ... swimming, playing games, dancing, singing, laughing, and a little bit of drama at 1:00am due to exhaustion. Katie has had such an amazing year we wanted to celebrate her special day in a BIG WAY. Think we pulled it off!!
Glamour Girls
Katie went to a Glamour Shots birthday party for her friend Sydney last weekend. It was a lot of fun and the girls got to get their makeup and hair done and then do a photo shoot!! We ordered some pictures but I took these when we got home. Although I am not a big fan of the makeup on such a young girl, I loved her hair. She looked really pretty and it gave us a glimpse of what she will look like. She was so happy to get to do the photos with her BFF Casey .. I will post the other pics when I get them.

Yesterday was the official last day of school!! Elementary parties, breakfasts for the 8th graders, parties, sleepovers ... hard to keep up with the social lives of these kids. Loved looking at the pictures above from the first day of school to the last day!! Andrew has grown over 5 inches this year, Matthew looks a lot older to me, and Julia is the tallest girl in her class!!! Wow ... what a year. Too many great things to mention but here are a few (Katie winning the Veritas Award at school, undefeated football season for Andrew, Katie pitches 2 no hitters and leads her school softball team to 6 - 2 in their first season, Julia learns to read, Matthew's Pop Warner wins first game in CLL history, amazing trips to Grand Canyon and Sarasota for Andrew and Katie, Katie's acting debut as Violet, Matthew owning the basketball court, all A's all for quarters for ALL Team Kane, Andrew member of the MAO team at WPS, Katie President of the Spanish Club, Matthew with 100 AR points .... I could go on and on!! Love watching these kids grow, thrive but most of all support and love each other!!

8th Grade Graduation
Allen and Andrew ... Happy Graduates!
What an amazing night. WPS Middle school continues to wow us with their attention to detail, incredible decorations and of course their love and sentiment for our kids! Andrew and 78 of his classmates graduated from 8th grade last night. It was wonderfully orchestrated and very special. The highlight of the evening was hearing each student be individually recognized by a teacher. The stories, quotes, and kind words were very heart warming. Coach Williams talked about Andrew ... about his balance of academic and athletic ability, his determination and potential.
Andrew skipped a grade early on in his schooling .... so he is the youngest in his grade (sometime almost 2 full years younger). Sean and I have regretted this decision from almost the get go and although at the time, the academic challenge that he needed was met, we were very short sighted. After praying, talking, struggling, praying and talking some more, we have decided to "true him up" so he graduates in his original grade. After dealing with the "What would people think?" and "How will he be perceived?" ... Sean and I realize that this is not a curse but a blessing of an extra year. He is going to remain in the 8th grade for his "transcripts" but will be taking both middle school and high school electives. He will not have to repeat any curriculum and we will be able to tailor his schedule to help him target areas that he can use some practice. WPS has been amazing at customizing a program for him and the transition should be pretty smooth. We obviously have had so many discussions with him about this and he realizes what an advantage it is to to have another year before the SATs, another year to get bigger and better in sports, to be getting his license at the same time as his peers, etc.
Think of it this way ... I get to keep the sweetest boy God ever made home with me another year. That is reason enough!!

Budding Author?
So proud to send Katie to school today with her end of the year project, Egyptian Endurance. Their assignment was to write a sequel of a book that they read this year, incorporating the curriculm in their 5 core courses throughout the book. Like everything that Kate does, she really worked hard, was very organized, done way ahead of schedule and needed no help at all. The only part I played was driving her to Staples to get the binding done. She actually had to turn in 5 copies of the book to each teacher (with their subject matter highlighted). The story was very well written, detailed and interesting. This girl continues to amaze us and we have seen this year what type of young woman she is becoming: driven, competitive, compassionate, organized and beautiful!! Love her!!

While the Big Kids are Away....
the little kids and I will play (and play and play!). Sean took Andrew, Katie and Matthew to Miami Friday morning to watch the NCAA baseball regional tournament. So far, Miami has won both games and will play for the championship tonight at 4! It will be a late night for them. But it gives me another day with the little ones to just relax and ease into our summer pace. We went to the pool yesterday am and did alot of cleaning out of drawers and such. Julia is just beginning to read so we worked on flashcards and she drew for about 2 hours. My friend Chris came over last night to hang out and it was really fun to just chill and chat!!
As you can see, William is now in the BIG BOY BED!! We took his crib down this week and it was pretty sad for me. He is getting to be such a big guy (less the pacifier that he is addicted to!). But now there is more room in their room and I don't have to wrestle with that obnoxious crib sheet! Julia and Will are having a sleep over!! Went to check on them and found drum sticks in between them. Trying to figure out if there we actually using them for some late night jamming session or their function in a line separating the bed in half!! Too cute!

PK4 Splash Day
How fun to be 5 years old, get to wear your bathing suit to school, play on the slip n slide, with shaving cream, do water balloons and run through the sprinkler. Julia had a blast at Splash Day!!! And btw ... I think she has one darn pretty sweet bathing suit!!!

Laker Awards 2010
Tonight were the Laker Awards for Middle School. So proud of Andrew and Katie who both received 2 Awards. Both were on the Headmasters List for all As for the whole year. Less than 10% of the students received this award and Andrew has received this all three years!!! Andrew was recognized for the Laker Legend (his Academic Olympic Team). Katie received one of the Laker Awards, Veritas, for quest for life long learning. Good job Team Kane!! What a wonderful example you both are to your siblings!
Willy Wonka
You are turning Violet, Violet!
It has taken me so long to post on Katie's theatrical debut, Willy Wonka. I am still blown away by this production!! Sean and I just looked at each other after opening night in amazement at what we saw. The actors were so incredible!! We were not expecting such a high quality play. Katie also was terrific ... she really got into her character, Violet! Aunt Meredith flew in from Seattle for the play. We took all the little critters to the matinee show on Saturday. They really liked it. Also, Mrs. Hart, Mrs. Servine and her girls and the whole Gamble family came to cheer on Katie. We were so proud of her. She continues to amaze us with her talent, hard work and spunky attitude ... perfect for this role!!
